When a person is struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol, it often requires specialized treatment to recover. Recovery is like remission from the chronic disease of addiction. When connecting with rehab programs, there are many different options and levels of care. What works well for one person won’t necessarily be as effective for another, so addiction treatment has to be tailored and individualized.
Many people seek a behavioral health program that includes a continuum-of-care approach. That means rather than going to just one type of rehab program, like inpatient treatment, you participate in several steps or levels of care along the way. This allows you to gradually explore your life in recovery, but only as you’re ready.
One option on the continuum of care is an intensive outpatient program, like what’s available at Sequoia Detox Center. An IOP in Spokane or elsewhere offers a high level of overall support, but on an outpatient basis that’s more flexible than inpatient treatment.
Sequoia Recovery Centers is a drug and alcohol detox center in Spokane, Washington.
Addiction is treated as a complex disease, affecting each person uniquely. When someone begins an addiction treatment program, it should include a comprehensive intake assessment. The treatment team learns more about how long the addiction has been going on and the severity. A treatment team should also consider someone’s mental and physical health in designing their treatment plan.
Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) in Washington allows patients the freedom to go about their daily lives as usual while receiving the care they require to achieve a substantial, long-lasting recovery. Similar clinical and medical services will be provided to clients in our Intensive Outpatient Program as in our Partial Hospitalization Program, but this program will slightly reduce clinical engagement to make the process of returning to occupational and social roles more manageable.
Sequoia Detox Center provides individualized treatment that emphasizes integrative therapies such as 12-step programs, individual, group, and family counseling, art therapy, and more. We emphasize the value of tailored treatment plans at our outpatient rehab in Spokane since we are aware that no two patients are the same.

An intensive outpatient program or IOP is one type of rehab program available. This is a lower level of care than inpatient, residential treatment but a more intensive care level than standard outpatient rehab.
For some people, inpatient rehab might be the first part of their treatment program after a medical detox. Inpatient rehab has unique advantages, including the fact that it removes you from your environment and potential triggers. With inpatient rehab, you leave home, and you’re able to focus exclusively on healing in a peaceful environment. At the same time, not everyone is able to leave their homes and live in a treatment facility.
You might need intensive treatment for a longer-term or more severe addiction, but you’re unable to stay overnight. If this is true for you, an intensive outpatient program could be a good option. You can continue to live at home, which might be ideal if your environment is one that’s supportive and conducive to recovery. You might also have responsibilities at home that you can’t necessarily leave during treatment.
During an intensive outpatient program, while it’s going to be tailored to your needs, you can expect that you’re going to spend many hours in therapy every week. Usually, a Spokane intensive outpatient program will include anywhere from 10 to 12 therapy hours a week. You might also be encouraged to participate in a 12-step program or some other type of support group during this time.
While the specifics again will vary, you might go to the treatment several days a week, for a few hours at a time.
Group therapy is central to an IOP, and specific skills you might work on include relapse prevention, identifying and avoiding triggers, and problem-solving skills and strategies.
Along with starting your treatment in an IOP, if that’s what’s right for you, you could also participate in one of these programs following inpatient rehab. You might step down into an intensive outpatient program in Spokane or elsewhere as you’ve received a higher care level, and you’re ready to begin taking accountability for your recovery and using new coping mechanisms.
